In a significant breakthrough, the South Disa police have apprehended a man who had been on the run for 15 years, wanted for vehicle theft. The operation was carried out under the directive of Banaskantha District Police Chief Akshayraj Makwana. The accused, Champalal Kishnaram Jat, aged 42, has been eluding law enforcement since the theft incident. He is originally from Godara in Rajasthan and worked as a farmer.
The arrest took place during a routine patrol by the South Disa police staff, guided by Deputy Superintendent of Police C.L. Solanki and Inspector V.M. Chaudhary. Acting on a tip-off received through a human source, the police identified Jat as the suspect in a vehicle theft case registered in Disa.
The police’s diligent investigation led to the successful capture of Jat, who had managed to evade arrest for over a decade. This successful operation has garnered praise for the South Disa police, showcasing their commitment to tackling crime in the region.
The incident underscores the ongoing efforts of the Gujarat police to combat vehicle theft. Since the launch of a citizen portal by Gujarat’s Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi in July 2022, the police have received numerous complaints regarding vehicle and mobile phone thefts. In just seven months, the portal facilitated the filing of around 7,953 complaints. Of these, 1,799 were formally registered as First Information Reports (FIRs).
Authorities are working diligently to process these complaints. A special drive was initiated to re-examine the applications submitted to local police forces. This initiative aims to ensure that FIRs are registered promptly, enhancing the response to theft cases in Gujarat.
The police have also introduced measures to track stolen vehicles. The registration numbers of stolen vehicles will be monitored through the Command and Control Centre (NETRAM) and checked with the help of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras across the state. In the case of mobile phone thefts, the police will trace stolen phones using their IMEI numbers.
The recent arrest of Champalal Jat highlights the effectiveness of these initiatives and the ongoing commitment of Gujarat law enforcement to bring long-eluding criminals to justice. As the police continue to enhance their operations, the community can rest assured that efforts to combat vehicle theft are in full force.
Meanwhile, in a related case, the Vadodara police have also made headlines by solving multiple motorcycle thefts linked to a notorious thief named Arvind Jayantibhai Vyas. Vyas was caught with 31 stolen motorcycles, leading the police to uncover his criminal activities after observing him through CCTV footage and technical surveillance. It seems that the police are on a roll in their efforts to crack down on vehicle theft in Gujarat, reinforcing their promise to protect the public and their property.
