In Gandhinagar, the Collector’s office has taken strong action against illegal mining activities. Guided by Collector Mehul K. Dave, and with the help of Assistant Mining Engineer Pranav Singh, the local team has been conducting continuous checks. The aim is to increase government revenue and penalise those involved in unauthorized mining, transportation, and storage of minerals.
Recently, during these checks, a dumper truck (GJ-02-ZZ-2100) was caught transporting unauthorized minerals without a royalty pass. Another dumper (DD-01-P-9857) was also found to be overloaded while transporting minerals. This crackdown is part of a wider effort by the government to enforce mining regulations and ensure compliance.
In addition to these dumper trucks, an excavator machine from Hyundai (model R2151) was discovered abandoned in the Sabarmati riverbank area. This machine has been seized for further investigation. Overall, about 1.20 crore INR worth of vehicles and machinery have been confiscated.
The authorities are also measuring the quantity of illegally mined minerals and will impose penalties as per the Gujarat Minerals (Prevention of Illegal Mining, Transportation and Storage) Rules, 2017. This shows a strong commitment from the Collector’s office to uphold the law and crack down on illegal mining in the region.
The continuous monitoring and inspections are expected to make it difficult for illegal miners to operate in Gandhinagar. The public support for this initiative is crucial, as the government aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in managing mineral resources. With ongoing efforts, the Collector’s office hopes to safeguard the environment and ensure that mining activities contribute positively to the state’s economy.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities related to illegal mining. The government is also working on improving its services through technology and e-governance, making it easier for citizens to access information and report issues. This proactive approach aims to create a safer and more compliant mining environment in Gandhinagar, benefiting both the community and the economy.
