Gandhinagar recently held an important meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). The meeting was led by Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi and was part of the State Convergence Committee on AMR. This was the second meeting aimed at tackling the growing problem of antibiotic resistance in the state and across the world.
During the meeting, Chief Secretary Joshi reviewed the actions taken by the state government under the State Action Plan for Containment of Antimicrobial Resistance (SAPCAR-G). He discussed various steps taken to address the issue and provided essential recommendations for future actions.
The meeting also celebrated the state’s contributions to the One Health Steering Committee, which works under the guidance of the Prime Minister’s chief scientific advisor. Joshi encouraged continuous efforts to maintain this momentum.
Two significant state-level reports were launched at the meeting: the GUJSAR Surveillance Report and the Antibiotic Usage Report. These reports provide recommendations on how to effectively monitor the use of antibiotics and the trends of resistance. The discussions also focused on emerging issues related to AMR and One Health.
The meeting aimed to strengthen the public health response in Gujarat. Important regulatory and stewardship decisions were made to improve the state’s healthcare services.
Several senior officials attended the meeting, including Health Secretary Dhananjay Dwivedi, Urban Health Commissioner Harshad Patel, and Rural Health Commissioner Ratan Kunwar Gadhvi. Officials from various departments, including agriculture and animal husbandry, science and technology, and GPCB, were also present.
The attendees discussed how to enhance public health responses in Gujarat. They emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to combat the threat of antibiotic resistance.
