In Gandhinagar, a new initiative has been launched to promote eco-friendly practices. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the Sakhi Neer brand of drinking water in glass bottles at the Vidhan Sabha campus. This event took place in the presence of the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Mulubhai Bera, along with state ministers Mukesh Patel and Bhikhu Parmar.
The Sakhi Neer initiative is run by the Narmada Ekta Mahila Mandal. It aims to reduce plastic waste by replacing plastic bottles with reusable glass bottles. Chief Minister Patel encouraged the women of the Sakhi Mandal and technology developers present at the event. He urged them to continue their efforts towards sustainability.
This move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of minimising plastic use. Now, in the Secretariat and Vidhan Sabha campus, people can find drinking water provided in glass bottles branded as Sakhi Neer. The Chief Minister also flagged off an e-rickshaw for transporting these glass bottles, showcasing the project’s commitment to the environment.
The Sakhi Neer project not only promotes sustainable practices but also supports local women’s groups. It offers women a chance to earn a livelihood while contributing to environmental conservation.
