On July 4, 2025, Gandhinagar will host a special ceremony to welcome newly elected sarpanches and members of the gram panchayats. The event will take place at Mahatma Mandir at 3 PM. A total of 4,876 sarpanches, along with 600 women from the Samras gram panchayat, will participate in this significant gathering.
Recently, the state announced 56 women Samras gram panchayats, showcasing the importance of women’s leadership in local governance. During the ceremony, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will virtually distribute over ₹35 crore in grants to 761 Samras gram panchayats. This grant is aimed at improving local infrastructure and community support.
The Chief Minister will also present certificates to the top-ranking sarpanches based on the Panchayat Advancement Index. This index will reward the best-performing gram panchayats across nine themes. Additionally, there will be announcements regarding new project grants, with a total allocation of over ₹1,236 crore for various initiatives.
Among the notable achievements, the gram panchayat of Jawanpar in Devbhumi Dwarka district has been recognized for its outstanding work as a ‘poverty-free and prosperous livelihood gram panchayat.’ Similarly, Nakda village in Gir Somnath has been awarded for being a ‘healthy panchayat.’ In the Ahmedabad district, Kanial village received recognition as a ‘child-friendly panchayat,’ and Rasnol village from Anand district was noted for having sufficient water resources.
Other distinguished gram panchayats include Bhunindra village in Panchmahal district, recognized for its cleanliness and greenery, and Trambovad gram panchayat in Anand for its infrastructural facilities. Furthermore, Dantol gram panchayat in Panchmahal has been acknowledged for being socially just and secure, while Narapura village in Vadodara has been recognized for good governance.
This year, the highest number of Samras gram panchayats, totaling 103, is in Bhavnagar district. In the category of women Samras gram panchayats, Mehsana leads with nine panchayats. Following Mehsana, the top five districts with Samras gram panchayats include Mahesana (90), Patan (70), Banaskantha (59), and Jamnagar (59).
The encouraging recognition of these gram panchayats highlights the growing emphasis on effective local governance and community development in Gujarat. The upcoming ceremony in Gandhinagar is expected to inspire more local leaders to contribute positively to their communities.
