Gang Busted for Stealing from Auto Rickshaw Passengers in Patan

In Patan, Gujarat, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) has arrested a gang that was stealing from passengers in auto rickshaws. The police took action after receiving a tip-off about the gang’s activities. Three suspects from Rajula, Amreli, were caught during this operation. They are Kanubhai Solanki, Maheshbhai Solanki, and Shantuben Solanki. Police recovered valuables worth ₹3,21,860, including gold jewellery, cash, and an auto rickshaw from the suspects.

The police, led by Superintendent V.K. Nayini, had launched a special operation to prevent property-related crimes. After analysing CCTV footage, they identified a suspicious auto rickshaw with the registration number GJ27U9260. The police tracked the vehicle and apprehended two men and one woman at Harij.

The suspects had recently targeted a couple near Nayta village. They posed as passengers and took the couple’s attention away while stealing gold ornaments from their bag. During the arrest, police found 24.73 grams of gold (valued at ₹2,07,360), ₹9,000 in cash, two mobile phones worth ₹5,500, and an auto rickshaw valued at ₹1,00,000.

Legal proceedings against the gang members are underway, as they face several charges related to theft. This incident has raised awareness about the safety of passengers using auto rickshaws in the region. Local authorities urge citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately. They encourage passengers to be cautious and ensure their belongings are secure during their journeys. The police are also working to improve surveillance and security measures to prevent such crimes in the future.
