Gang in Sadhu Attire Robs Woman of ₹50,000 in Gandhinagar

A gang dressed as sadhu (holy men) has been targeting women in the Gandhinagar area. Recently, they stole ₹50,000 worth of jewellery from a woman by tricking her. This incident took place on Chandrala Road, where the gang approached the victim under the pretext of asking for directions. The police have registered a case at the Chiloada police station and are investigating the matter.

The victim, Rekhaben Vinodbhai, runs a mango business and lives near the Uma Sanskar Tirth compound in Chandrala. On Monday afternoon, she left her house to call her father, who was sitting under a bridge nearby. While walking, she noticed a white car parked at the main gate of the Uma Sanskar Tirth. The driver of the car called out to her.

When she approached the car, she saw four men inside. Two of them were dressed as sadhus. They asked Rekhaben for directions to the Giyod Ambaji temple. As she guided them, one of the sadhus handed her a ₹200 note, telling her to keep it and to pray for good fortune. Trusting him, Rekhaben took off her jewellery and handed it to the sadhu, thinking he would return it after a prayer.

However, the gang quickly drove away in their car, taking her valuables with them. The Chiloada police have filed a complaint based on her report and are now working to track down the gang. This type of crime, where individuals disguise themselves as sadhus to rob unsuspecting victims, has resurfaced after a previous gang was caught some time ago.

The police are urging the public to be cautious and to report any suspicious activity. They recommend that people avoid engaging with strangers, especially those who appear as sadhus, as they may not be what they seem. The authorities are increasing patrols in the area to prevent further incidents and to ensure the safety of residents.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of crime in the region, particularly against women. It serves as a reminder for everyone to remain vigilant and to protect their belongings. Authorities are hopeful that with increased awareness and community cooperation, they can reduce such incidents in the future.
