Gang of Thieves Busted for Stealing from Auto Rickshaw Passengers in Patan

The Patan LCB (Local Crime Branch) has successfully arrested a gang of thieves who were posing as passengers in auto rickshaws. Three suspects from Rajula have been taken into custody. The police seized items worth ₹3,21,860, including gold jewellery, cash, and the auto rickshaw itself. According to Patan’s police chief V.K. Nayak, the LCB initiated a special operation to prevent property-related crimes. Following a tip-off, they reviewed CCTV footage and found a suspicious auto rickshaw with the number GJ27U9260. This led to the arrest of two men and one woman from the Harij area.

The arrested individuals are Kanubhai Bhikhabhai Solanki, Maheshbhai Dadubhai Solanki, and Shantuben alias Kantuben Shankarbhai Solanki. All three are residents of Rajula, Amreli. They reportedly tricked a couple into sitting in the rickshaw near Nayta village and stole gold jewellery from their bag while diverting their attention.

From the suspects, the police recovered 24.73 grams of gold jewellery valued at ₹2,07,360, ₹9,000 in cash, two mobile phones worth ₹5,500, and an auto rickshaw valued at ₹1,00,000. Legal actions are being taken against the accused.

This incident highlights the increasing need for passenger safety in public transport. The police have urged passengers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. They have also recommended that passengers keep their valuables secure and avoid displaying them in public. The authorities continue to work on measures to enhance safety in auto rickshaws and prevent such crimes in the future.
