In Gandhinagar, a comprehensive review meeting of the Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) took place, chaired by the Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Rishikesh Patel. This meeting focused on the admission process for undergraduate courses at the 15 government universities in Gujarat. As of now, there have been a total of 8 rounds of admission, completing two phases. The verification process has been conducted for over 322,636 students, with approximately 297,000 students receiving admission offers. By July 3, an estimated 225,000 students will be admitted, showing a 32% increase compared to the same date last year, when 170,109 admissions were recorded.
During the review, it was decided to hold a special admission phase. This phase will allow students who missed registration another opportunity to apply. Registration will remain open until July 3, and the admission process will be conducted from July 7 to 11 in five rounds. Minister Rishikesh Patel emphasized the importance of maximizing student participation in this phase.
The GCAS process ensures that the data of registered students is provided directly to the universities. Each university independently manages its admission process based on merit and guidelines set by the government. If a student misses reporting to a college during the offer period, the decision to offer them a place in the next round is entirely up to the university. The government does not interfere in this process.
It is important to note that students must select colleges based on their residential area. For instance, a student from a rural area will be offered admission to a college in their locality, while a student from an urban area will follow the same criteria. This ensures that all students have fair access to institutions close to where they live.
The initiative aims to streamline the admission process and cater to the needs of students. It reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities in Gujarat and ensuring that more students can access higher education. With the increase in admissions this year, the GCAS has proven to be an effective tool in managing the flow of students into universities, adapting to the growing demand for higher education in the state.
