GCAS Portal Simplifies University Admissions for Gujarat Students

In Gujarat, students can now apply for multiple college programmes through a single application using the Gujarat Common Admission System (GCAS) portal. This initiative by the state government aims to streamline the admission process for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

As of the 2025-26 academic year, 4.21 lakh students completed their 12th grade, with 3.15 lakh applying for verification for undergraduate admissions. Out of these, 1.27 lakh students have confirmed their admissions. The next round of admissions for those who haven’t yet enrolled will begin on June 21 and end on July 3, 2025.

For postgraduate admissions, 21.60% of students confirmed their entry through the GCAS portal. Students still have time to fill out their full application forms until July 1, 2025, with the admission process starting on July 8. If any student wishes to modify their university, college, or programme choices made in the first round, they can do so on July 2 and 3.

The GCAS portal allows students to apply to various universities and programmes from the comfort of their homes. This means students can receive offers from all their preferred colleges according to the university’s rules. To keep students informed, regular SMS and WhatsApp messages will be sent regarding admission offers, confirmation dates, and other important details.

In the first stage of undergraduate admissions, 56,005 students expressed their choices for various programmes at Gujarat University. Based on the merit system, 34,911 students received offers, and 16,171 confirmed their admissions.

The Office of the Higher Education Commissioner has provided these details and shared information about private university admissions. For the 2025-26 academic year, out of the 4,21,374 students who passed their 12th-grade exams, 3,15,791 students have verified their applications on the GCAS portal, with 1,26,693 confirming their admissions so far.

For the remaining 1,89,098 students, the next admission round starts on June 21 and will conclude by July 3, 2025. The admission process is regulated by the university’s rules, and the GCAS has no role in determining eligibility or merit in this admission process, as clarified by the Higher Education Commissioner’s office.

For postgraduate admissions, the first round of applications will close on June 20, 2025. The verification process for the second phase of postgraduate admissions will start from June 19 and students can modify their choices if needed. Students wishing to change their university, college, or programme should do so between July 2 and 3.

The second phase for postgraduate admissions will involve students verifying their applications from June 19 to July 4, with the admission process starting on July 8, 2025, as per the announcements from the Higher Education Commissioner’s office.

This new system not only simplifies the admission process but also makes it more accessible for students across Gujarat. The GCAS portal ensures that students stay informed and can manage their applications efficiently, paving the way for a smoother transition to higher education in the state.
