North Gujarat is set to receive much-needed rain starting May 22, according to the weather department. This comes after a week of intense heat, with temperatures soaring around 38 degrees Celsius. The high humidity has made the heat unbearable for many residents. The forecast signals the arrival of pre-monsoon activity, bringing thunderstorms and rain to the region.
In recent days, scattered showers have already been reported across various parts of North Gujarat. However, the upcoming rains are expected to be more widespread. The forecast predicts that thunderstorms could bring relief to residents suffering from the sweltering heat. Typically, the monsoon season in Gujarat begins around June 15, but this pre-monsoon rain is seen as a positive sign.
The weather department has observed increased activity in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, which may lead to a cyclone. This could further enhance the chances of rainfall in the region. From May 19 to 21, areas in Sabarkantha and Aravalli are likely to experience rain. Then, on May 22, 23, and 24, it is anticipated that Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mehsana, Patan, and Banaskantha will see further rainfall.
Meteorologists suggest that this year’s monsoon may start earlier than expected, possibly reaching Kerala around May 27. This could mean that the monsoon rains will hit Gujarat sooner than usual. Recent activities in Andaman Nicobar have also resulted in heavy rainfall, indicating that the monsoon may begin its journey towards Gujarat soon.
The forecast indicates that the formation of a cyclone in the Arabian Sea could drastically change the weather patterns in Gujarat. Experts believe that before the official onset of the monsoon, we might see significant rainfall in several areas.
Last year, North Gujarat experienced 17% more rainfall than the previous year, with Mehsana district receiving the highest at 133%. In contrast, Banaskantha, which is a key agricultural area, reported only 99.90% of its seasonal rainfall. This year’s rain is crucial for farmers, as it ensures adequate irrigation for the upcoming seasons. The abundance of rainfall has also been beneficial for reservoirs and groundwater levels, promising more water availability for farmers.
The expected rains could provide farmers with a crucial boost, especially after a challenging summer. With the right weather conditions, the agricultural sector in North Gujarat can thrive, leading to improved crop yields and economic benefits for the local community. The weather department continues to monitor the situation closely, ensuring that residents remain informed about any changes in weather patterns.
In summary, the upcoming rains in North Gujarat are a welcome relief for farmers and residents alike. With the anticipated thunderstorms and cooler temperatures, the region may soon see a transformation in its weather, paving the way for a fruitful agricultural season ahead.
