Government Supports Families After Ahmedabad Plane Crash

On June 12, a tragic plane crash occurred in Ahmedabad. The accident involved a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operated by Air India. It led to the loss of 241 lives out of 242 on board. This event has deeply affected many families. In response, the Gujarat government has been working hard to provide support. The Roads and Buildings Department is playing a key role in this effort.

The department has arranged for free accommodation for the victims’ families. They have reserved 73 rooms at various locations, including the Enakshi Circuit House and private hotels. As of June 18, 65 rooms were occupied, hosting 165 family members. This arrangement includes free meals and lodging.

Additionally, to assist families further, the department has kept 12 cars on standby. This transportation will help families reach their destinations easily.

The government is also conducting DNA sampling for the deceased passengers. This important process will help identify the victims and provide closure to their families. The need for accommodation and transport arises due to this crucial task. The government wants to ensure that families are comfortable during this difficult time.

The plane crash has raised concerns about Air India’s operations. The airline has faced scrutiny since the incident. On June 16, Air India cancelled its flight AI 159 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick. The cancellation was due to the unavailability of the Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which was involved in the crash.

Passengers were informed that flight AI 160, scheduled to leave at 1:10 PM, was also affected. The flight was supposed to depart from London at 10 PM on June 16 but was delayed. It eventually left London at 11:16 PM and arrived in Ahmedabad at 1:24 PM on June 17. The flight was then rescheduled to depart from Ahmedabad at 3 PM but was ultimately cancelled.

Air India explained that the cancellation was not due to technical issues. Instead, it was a result of airspace restrictions and additional checks that took longer than usual. The airline has apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers and has made arrangements for hotel accommodations. Passengers can also choose to receive full refunds or complimentary rescheduling of their flights.

Following the crash, Air India has decided to change the flight number for the route from Ahmedabad to Gatwick. The new flight will be numbered AI 159, with the return flight as AI 160. This decision aims to help passengers forget the tragedy linked with the previous flight number. The airline wishes to avoid triggering bad memories for those travelling on this route.

As the community mourns the loss, the government and Air India are working together. Their efforts to support the victims’ families are crucial. It is a difficult time for everyone affected by this tragedy. The authorities are committed to providing the necessary assistance while also ensuring safety in future flights.

The impact of this incident goes beyond numbers. It is about people, families, and the lives changed forever. The response from the government shows a commitment to care for those in need. As more information becomes available, families will continue to receive the support they need during this hard journey ahead.
