In a grand celebration ahead of the 148th Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannathji, a magnificent Mamera procession took place in the Paldi-Vasna area of West Ahmedabad. This year, for the first time, Paldi-Vasna had the honour of hosting the Mamera ceremony, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the western region. According to the main organiser, Mr Manish Trivedi, the event was well-planned to ensure no shortcomings. Over 2,000 invitations were sent to 131 societies in Vasna, and 10 societies were specially decorated according to the Rath Yatra theme.

The Mamera procession started on June 23 at 7 AM from the Sugam Flats in Vasna, passing through Vrindavan Flats, Lavanya Society, Kesariyaji, and returning to Arvind Society. This 4-kilometre long procession was warmly welcomed at 31 locations along the route. More than 10,000 devotees participated, making it a significant event in West Ahmedabad.

To add grandeur to the Mamera occasion, organizers placed ‘Rath Yatra Welcome’ boards in each Vasna society. During the procession, 31 artists from the tribal community of Chhota Udaipur performed traditional dances, which attracted much attention. The two-day event also featured a music programme by local singer Dharti Solanki.

Ketan Thakkar, Chairman of Arihant Society in Vasna, mentioned that a dedicated team of 40 members worked hard for the Mamera planning. A community feast was also hosted at Arihant Society on June 23.

As part of the religious festivities, a special offering of mangoes to Lord Jagannath was made on Friday, coinciding with the Bhim Agiyaras, which was open to devotees from 9 AM. The prasadam was then distributed to the needy and devotees on Saturday.

This event not only showcased the rich cultural heritage of the region but also strengthened the community bonds among residents. The successful Mamera procession is expected to encourage more such events in the future, bringing the community together in celebration of their faith and traditions.
