GSRTC to Buy 1,200 New Buses Worth ₹400 Crore by Diwali

The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) is set to enhance its fleet by purchasing 1,200 new buses, including 100 premium category buses, at a cost of ₹400 crore. This initiative aims to improve public transport and provide modern facilities to passengers. The decision comes as the number of travellers using ST buses continues to rise daily. To ensure safety and comfort, older buses that have reached their kilometer limit will be removed from service.

According to sources from the state transport department, the new buses will be purchased over the next four months, with an aim to have them ready by Diwali. This effort is part of a broader plan to modernise the public transport system in Gujarat. In the last year alone, the transport department has introduced 2,987 new buses to serve the public.

The government is committed to rolling out 200 new buses each month, which translates to an average of six new buses on the road every day. This increase in the number of modern buses is expected to enhance the travel experience for passengers. With this new fleet, the number of daily passengers using GSRTC services has also seen a significant rise. Previously, about 2.5 million passengers benefited from GSRTC services daily. This number has now increased to 2.7 million, thanks to the introduction of more comfortable and convenient buses.

The new buses will come equipped with advanced features to ensure a better travel experience. Passengers can look forward to improved seating, better safety measures, and enhanced overall comfort. This investment in public transport is crucial as it not only meets the growing demand but also encourages more people to choose public transport over personal vehicles, thereby contributing to reduced traffic congestion and pollution.

This initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to improving public transport infrastructure and making travel more accessible for all citizens. The modernisation of the GSRTC fleet is expected to play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents by providing reliable and efficient transportation options. As the state prepares for the arrival of these new buses, passengers can anticipate a more enjoyable and efficient travel experience in the near future.
