On June 19, peaceful voting took place for the by-elections in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. The Election Commission ensured strict security during the counting process. In the Kadi constituency, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated a grand victory, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won in the Visavadar seat.
The results for the Kadi constituency show that BJP candidate Rajendra Chavda won with 38,904 votes. Congress candidate Ramesh Chavda received 59,932 votes, while AAP’s Jagdish Chavda gained 3,077 votes. Additionally, 1,692 votes were cast as NOTA (None Of The Above).
In the Visavadar constituency, AAP candidate Gopal Italia achieved a significant win. By the end of the 20th round of counting, Italia led by 16,594 votes, securing a total of 75,906 votes. BJP’s Kirit Patel received 58,325 votes, while Congress’s candidate managed only 5,491 votes.
After the results were announced, Gopal Italia made a bold statement, warning officials to improve their performance. He addressed the public, expressing gratitude for their trust and support. Italia stated, “This is not just my win; it is yours. The people of Visavadar have shown their faith in AAP. I thank you for this. May God give me the strength to work for you.”
The by-elections had a voter turnout of 54.61% in Visavadar and 54.49% in Kadi. The Visavadar seat became vacant after Bhupendra Bhayani from AAP resigned and joined BJP. The candidates for this seat included Kirit Patel from BJP, Nitin Ranpariya from Congress, and Gopal Italia from AAP.
The Kadi seat was reserved for Scheduled Castes and became vacant after the death of BJP MLA Karsan Solanki. BJP nominated Rajendra Chavda, while Congress and AAP selected Ramesh Chavda and Jagdish Chavda as their candidates respectively.
These results reflect the ongoing political dynamics in Gujarat, where AAP is gaining ground against established parties like BJP and Congress. The recent victories may signal a shift in voter sentiments and the rise of AAP as a serious contender in the state.
