On June 21, 2025, Gujarat marked the 11th International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm. The theme for this year was ‘One Earth, One Health’ and ‘Healthy Gujarat, Drug-Free Gujarat’. This celebration was part of the country’s Amrit Mahotsav, which was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In Gujarat, a total of 339 Amrut Sarovars were transformed into vibrant yoga venues, where over 11,291 citizens participated in yoga sessions.
Amrut Sarovars are water conservation projects aimed at rural development and have become symbols of community health and wellness. In various districts, local administration organised yoga sessions at these water bodies, attracting citizens from all walks of life, including students and local residents.
In Ahmedabad district, notable celebrations took place in villages like Dahgamda, Shiyal, and Sakodra, among others. In the Devbhumi Dwarka district, students from local schools celebrated Yoga Day near the Amrut Sarovar in Harshadpur.
In Navsari district, 273 participants joined the celebrations at 37 different Amrut Sarovars. The Patan district saw about 1,200 youth engaging in yoga practice at 34 Amrut Sarovars. Similarly, in Mahisagar district, 1,465 people participated at 36 locations.
Junagadh district also had significant participation, with celebrations held at multiple Amrut Sarovars. In Vadodara, 10 Amrut Sarovars hosted yoga sessions attended by people of all ages, including elders and children.
In Gandhinagar, yoga activities were conducted at several Amrut Sarovars, while in Amreli district, the Govindpur Amrut Sarovar was filled with yoga enthusiasts. Other districts like Sabarkantha, Dang, and Porbandar also organised yoga events at their respective Amrut Sarovars.
The celebrations not only promoted physical fitness but also highlighted the importance of mental well-being and community bonding. Many villagers took part in the events, showcasing a collective spirit towards health and wellness. This initiative underlines the growing recognition of yoga as a means to enhance community health, especially in rural areas.
The events were well-received by participants who expressed their joy in celebrating health and wellness together. The International Yoga Day has become a significant occasion in Gujarat, uniting people in their quest for a healthier life.
