Gujarat Celebrates World Environment Day with Tree Planting Initiative

On June 5, World Environment Day was celebrated in Gujarat with a special tree planting event. Bhanuben Babariya, the Minister of Women and Child Development, led the initiative in Punithvan, Gandhinagar. She was joined by 92 children and their parents from three Anganwadi centres in Borij. Together, they planted trees as part of a campaign to promote environmental awareness and greenery in the state.

During the event, Minister Babariya urged everyone to nurture and protect nature. She highlighted the importance of adopting an environmentally friendly lifestyle, as encouraged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mission Life’. On World Environment Day last year, the Prime Minister launched the ‘Ek Ped Ek Naam’ campaign, urging citizens to plant trees in memory of their mothers. This year, the Chief Minister has continued this initiative with ‘Ek Ped Ek Naam 2.0’, focusing on creating a plastic-free environment and increasing green cover.

Minister Babariya emphasized that every citizen should contribute to preserving nature. She called upon children, youth, and the public to participate in these efforts. The event also featured a session where a forest officer educated the children about the significance of trees and environmental conservation.

The celebration included fun activities with the children, as they enjoyed snacks like bananas, mangoes, and lemonade, which added to the festive atmosphere. Officials from the Gandhinagar municipal corporation’s ICDS department and the forest department were present to support the initiative.

This tree planting event is part of a larger movement in Gujarat aimed at reducing plastic usage and increasing greenery. Minister Babariya’s appeal aligns with global efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable living. The involvement of children in such activities is crucial for fostering a sense of responsibility towards the environment from a young age.

In summary, World Environment Day in Gujarat was marked by a joyful and meaningful tree planting ceremony. The initiative not only beautifies the surroundings but also serves as an educational experience for the younger generation. Together, the community is taking steps towards a greener and healthier future for all.
