In a recent meeting, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, emphasised the need for strict action against illegal commercial activities in residential societies. This directive came during the state-level ‘Swagat’ programme, where citizens can raise their concerns. The Chief Minister instructed district collectors and other officials to ensure that complaints are addressed effectively. He wants to create a situation where citizens do not have to approach the state for minor issues.
Bhupendra Patel highlighted that several complaints had been presented during the June session of ‘Swagat’. These included issues related to road construction, land revenue, and environmental concerns. The Chief Minister listened to the citizens attentively and instructed municipal officials to take necessary actions regarding illegal activities in residential areas.
Moreover, he made a sensitive decision to remove certain entries in land records that caused long-standing issues for farmers. This decision aims to provide relief to farmers facing difficulties due to outdated records.
During the June 2025 ‘Swagat’, a total of 3,349 complaints were received, out of which 1,757 (about 50%) were resolved. The Chief Minister met with 98 applicants from across the state, personally addressing the concerns of 12 individuals.
Officials from various departments were also instructed to take necessary actions regarding the remaining applications. The Chief Minister’s team included senior officials who connected through video conferencing to discuss the issues raised by the citizens.
The focus on illegal commercial activities is particularly important as it affects the living conditions in residential areas. Citizens have raised concerns about businesses operating in places meant for housing, which can disrupt community life.
In his instructions, the Chief Minister mentioned the importance of maintaining a positive outlook while addressing these issues. He urged the district administration to act firmly against any violations that compromise the safety and integrity of residential communities.
The ‘Swagat’ initiative has been successful in fostering communication between the government and the citizens. It allows people to voice their grievances and seek resolutions directly from the authorities. This approach not only empowers citizens but also holds officials accountable to the community’s needs.
