On June 5, which is celebrated as World Environment Day, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel launched 11 important projects aimed at promoting sustainable development and environmental conservation. The launch took place at the Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, with the presence of Forest, Environment, and Climate Change Minister Mulubhai Bera, and State Minister Mukeshbhai Patel. The state government is making continuous efforts to balance development with environmental protection, and these projects are a part of that initiative.
Among the projects launched, the newly constructed regional office building of the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) in Bharuch was inaugurated virtually. Additionally, the foundation stone was laid for the Ahmedabad regional office, and the air laboratory in Morbi was also inaugurated online. These developments aim to facilitate industrial operations by providing various services to nearby industries more efficiently.
Another significant project is the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for plastic industries at Halol. This facility will enhance efforts to combat water pollution in the area. The Gujarat Oil Recycling Association (GORA) also inaugurated a waste oil collection center as part of a research initiative focusing on circular economy principles.
E-governance has always been a priority for the government. GPCB revamped its e-governance platform to integrate with the PM Gati Shakti portal, making it easier for environmental governance through effective site assessment tools.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister and other dignitaries launched an updated website and application portal for the Gujarat Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA). This initiative will digitalize processes related to project applications, online fee payments, grievance redressal, and monitoring of CRZ clearances, supporting the ‘Digital India’ mission.
Other projects included the launch of the advanced XGN portal, a plastic waste management dashboard, and the GHG emission portal by the Climate Change Department. Virtual inaugurations were also held for bag vending machines in Ahmedabad and Surat.
The government aims for transparency in governance. The various inaugurations, foundation stones, and e-launches on this day are expected to significantly benefit environmental conservation efforts in Gujarat. These projects reflect the state’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental management, ensuring a balance between industrial growth and ecological health.
The Chief Minister highlighted that these initiatives will not only contribute to a cleaner environment but also improve the ease of doing business for industries in the state. With these projects, Gujarat is taking a substantial step towards a greener future, aligning with global sustainability goals and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
