Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel conducted a video conference with district collectors to assess the impact of ongoing heavy rains in Gujarat. The state has been experiencing continuous rainfall for the last 24 hours, causing significant disruptions in various districts.
On Tuesday evening, CM Patel visited the State Emergency Operations Centre in Gandhinagar. He held a meeting with senior officials from the government, police, meteorological department, and disaster management teams. The chief minister stressed the importance of preparedness in response to the flooding situation, especially in the Saurashtra region where rivers are overflowing.
He urged caution regarding vehicles and individuals near flooded roads and waterways. CM Patel instructed the installation of warning signs and, if necessary, the deployment of police to manage safety at risk locations.
Additionally, he emphasized the need to establish communication networks in areas affected by the rains. Satellite phones and alternative communication systems were to be set up in villages cut off from regular services.
The chief minister also directed district collectors to ensure safe relocation of people and livestock from low-lying areas. He highlighted the necessity for adequate provisions, including food, water, and health facilities, at emergency shelters.
With the meteorological department predicting more heavy rainfall in the coming days, CM Patel advised the administration to be vigilant and plan accordingly to maintain a zero casualty approach.
In response to the flooding, 12 teams from the National Disaster Response Force (N.D.R.F.) have been deployed across 12 districts to assist in evacuating citizens and providing relief. Furthermore, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (S.D.R.F.) are also stationed in 20 districts for additional support.
The chief minister instructed that all closed roads due to heavy rains in Saurashtra and South Gujarat should be reopened promptly. So far, a total of 259 individuals have been relocated from low-lying areas, and 139 people have been rescued from flood-affected regions.
During the video conference with collectors from Botad and Amreli districts, CM Patel reviewed the ongoing rescue and relief operations. Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi and senior secretaries, were present at the meeting.
This proactive approach by the government aims to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens during the challenging weather conditions. The administration is committed to providing timely assistance and maintaining communication with affected communities.
