A group of twelve young climbers from Gujarat has made headlines by successfully scaling Mount Yunam, which stands at 20,050 feet in Himachal Pradesh’s Pir Panjal Range. This remarkable feat was part of the ‘No Drugs Campaign’ organised by Invincible NGO. The team aimed to raise awareness about drug abuse and promote a healthy lifestyle among the youth through adventure and positive engagement.
The expedition took place from May 21 to May 28, 2025. Despite facing extreme weather conditions, including low temperatures and challenging terrain, the climbers pushed through. They reached the summit on May 28 and proudly unfurled the Indian Tricolour, along with banners advocating for the ‘No Drugs Campaign’. This initiative is particularly significant as it coincided with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which is observed on June 26.
The climbers, who are all from Surat, included Nirmal Bhavsar, Samarth Vachhani, Dhruv Patel, Devansh Rawal, Tejas Shah, Raju Basnet, Harsh Bharad, Chirag Patel, Rudrarajsinh Rovar, Mayur Bajaniya, and Shyam Lakhani. Their expedition was fully sponsored by Invincible NGO, which aims to channel youth energy away from negative activities and towards constructive achievements.
Prior to the climb, Invincible NGO explained that the mission seeks to inspire young minds to engage in goal-oriented challenges. The climbers faced various obstacles, such as oxygen scarcity and glacier-covered routes, but their determination led them to the top.
The ‘No Drugs Campaign’ is part of a larger national initiative called Nasha Mukt Pakhwada (Drug-Free Fortnight) launched by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). This campaign began on June 11, 2025, and includes various events like walkathons, cyclothons, and bike rallies across India. The aim is to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and encourage community involvement in building a drug-free society.
The NCB has reported enthusiastic participation from citizens of all ages during Nasha Mukt Pakhwada. Events have included cyclothons in 13 major cities on June 22, where thousands joined to promote a drug-free message. In New Delhi, the rally was flagged off by the Director General of NCB, attracting over 1,000 participants.
The involvement of public figures, including government leaders and celebrities, has helped to amplify the campaign’s message: “Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs.” Notably, Olympians and local authorities have also shown their support by participating in various events.
As part of the campaign, NCB has encouraged citizens to report any suspicious drug-related activities through the MANAS National Narcotics Helpline at 1933. This ensures that the public can play a crucial role in combating drug trafficking while maintaining anonymity.
The climb by the Gujarat team not only symbolizes their physical achievement but also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of community efforts in addressing drug abuse. By taking on such a challenging expedition, they have set an inspiring example for young people to follow. Their message is clear: through adventure and commitment, we can promote healthy choices and discourage drug use.
As the campaign continues to gain momentum, the hope is that more individuals will join the fight against drug abuse, creating a safer and healthier environment for future generations.
