In Gujarat, the Congress party is facing internal issues after recent elections. Amit Nayak, a spokesperson for the Gujarat Congress, has been suspended for six years. This decision follows his allegations against former city president Himat Singh Patel. Nayak posted on social media that contradicted the party’s stance, leading to his suspension.
The Congress party is dealing with the fallout from its recent poor performance in two assembly by-elections. Shaktisinh Gohil, the state party president, resigned from his position as a result of this loss. The by-elections were held in Kadi and Visavadar, where the Congress faced significant defeats.
Amit Nayak shared a picture with Himat Singh Patel and former Home Minister Pradipsinh Jadeja on social media, accusing them of misconduct. The state committee responded by stating that Nayak’s comments could be seen as violating the Atrocity Act. An audio clip of Nayak using offensive language was also presented to the disciplinary committee. They found his remarks unacceptable and damaging to the party image.
The disciplinary committee also received another audio clip that discussed money-related issues. While party members have the right to complain about any leader, Nayak’s actions were seen as harmful to the party’s reputation.
The committee highlighted that presenting photos with leaders of opposing parties in a negative light is inappropriate. Nayak’s actions were deemed serious enough to warrant a six-year suspension from the primary membership of the Congress party.
The results of the by-elections were disappointing for the Congress. In Kadi, BJP’s Rajendra Chavda won with 98,836 votes, while Congress candidate Ramesh Chavda received 59,932 votes. In Visavadar, Aam Aadmi Party’s Gopal Italia won with 75,906 votes, and BJP’s Kirit Patel secured 58,325 votes. Congress’s Nitin Ranpariya got only 5,491 votes. Gopal Italia will serve his first term in the assembly.
The Congress party is in a challenging position, as it tries to regroup and address its internal issues. With Gohil’s resignation and Nayak’s suspension, the party must now focus on rebuilding its image and strategy ahead of future elections.
