Gujarat Gears Up for International Yoga Day Celebrations in Vadnagar

On June 21, 2025, the International Yoga Day will be celebrated at Vadnagar, the birthplace of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This year’s theme is ‘Yoga for One Earth – One Health’. The event aims to promote wellness and health across Gujarat, aligning with the state initiative ‘Swasth Gujarat – Medasvita Mukt Gujarat’. The celebration will involve participation from various sectors including municipalities, village panchayats, schools, and wellness centres.

The state government plans to engage around 1.5 crore citizens in the yoga activities across 33 districts. Events will take place in 17 municipal corporations and 226 gram panchayats, along with numerous educational institutions and wellness centres. The main event will be held at the serene Sharmishta Talav in Vadnagar, starting at 6:00 AM. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will lead the celebrations, joined by other notable officials.

This year’s celebration also aims to set a new world record for the ‘Bhujangasana’ pose, showcasing Gujarat’s enthusiasm for yoga. The preparations are extensive, with over 1,000 yoga events already conducted across various districts, promoting community participation.

The initiative reflects India’s commitment to wellness, with yoga gaining international recognition since the UN declared June 21 as International Yoga Day in 2015. Prime Minister Modi will also join the celebrations from Visakhapatnam, encouraging citizens to embrace yoga for better health.

In the lead-up to the main event, common yoga protocol sessions have been held from June 15 to June 20, aiming to create a supportive environment for more people to join the celebration on June 21. Various activities, including yoga rallies and sessions, have been organized at local levels to raise awareness.

Vadnagar, a historic town with rich cultural heritage, is an ideal backdrop for this event. The town has been the focus of archaeological excavations, highlighting its importance as a centre of Buddhist learning. The town is known for its ancient structures and is increasingly recognized for its historical significance.

The yoga celebrations will also be broadcast live, ensuring that the Prime Minister’s message reaches all participants. The state government, in collaboration with the Sports and Youth Affairs Department and the State Yoga Board, is working diligently to ensure a successful event.

In summary, the 11th International Yoga Day in Vadnagar is set to be a grand celebration of health, wellness, and community spirit, with a significant focus on participation and awareness.
