The Gujarat government has taken a significant step to enhance urban infrastructure. In a recent announcement, the government approved over ₹1700 crores for various development projects across six municipal corporations and five municipalities in the state. This decision aligns with the Swarnim Jayanti Chief Minister Urban Development Scheme, aiming to improve urban living conditions and infrastructure by 2025.
The municipal corporations receiving funding include Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Anand, Morbi, Surendranagar, Nadiad, Navsari, and Vapi. The largest allocation is for Ahmedabad, which will receive ₹546 crores. Gandhinagar will get ₹32 crores, while other municipalities will receive varying amounts, such as ₹148 crores for Anand and ₹270 crores for Morbi.
The approved projects will focus on critical areas like road infrastructure, water supply, and essential civic amenities. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel emphasized the importance of these projects in elevating the quality of urban life and boosting economic activities.
Historically, the urban development initiatives in Gujarat were initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2005. His vision has led to the transformation of cities into well-planned urban centres, enhancing both cleanliness and liveliness. The current funding approval is seen as a continuation of this legacy, aiming to implement substantial urban reforms and infrastructure improvements.
Among the projects funded are street lighting, solar facilities, city beautification, public gardens, drainage systems, and water harvesting. The Chief Minister has allocated ₹676 crores for infrastructure projects across the new municipal corporations, focusing on modernizing public amenities.
Additionally, other important works, including repair of filter plants and roads, are set to receive ₹191.91 crores in funding. This will support municipalities like Surendranagar, Vapi, and Anand. The government also aims to ensure that newly included areas have reliable drinking water supply systems.
The Chief Minister reiterated that these investments will empower citizens and improve urban living standards, aiming for a future where residents can achieve a better quality of life. The government is committed to making cities vibrant and economically active hubs.
As the monsoon season approaches, local officials are urged to ensure that urban infrastructure is adequately prepared. The timely execution of these projects is crucial for preventing flooding and other weather-related issues.
With the focus on urban development, Gujarat is set to witness significant changes in its cities, enhancing both infrastructure and the overall quality of life for its residents.
