The Gujarat government has announced an important initiative to ensure that true beneficiaries receive timely food grain supplies. Beneficiaries holding valid ration cards must complete their e-KYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) to continue receiving benefits. As of now, around 3.14 crore or 85.80% of NFSA (National Food Security Act) ration cardholders have completed their e-KYC. This includes 570,363 children and 92,421 members over the age of 70, making the total completion rate approximately 88%.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, 93.40% of the food grain distribution for the month of June has already been achieved. The government is committed to providing benefits to all eligible ration cardholders. The e-KYC process is part of a larger verification effort aimed at ensuring that benefits reach the right people and to reduce duplication among ration cardholders.
Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Kunvarji Bavaliya, explained that the e-KYC initiative has been ongoing for the last 1.5 years. It is implemented following directives from the Supreme Court and the central government to improve the efficiency of ration distribution.
To facilitate this process, the state government has made it easy for ration cardholders to complete their e-KYC from home using the “My Ration” mobile application or through local revenue offices and village councils. Additionally, postmen can visit beneficiaries’ homes to assist with the e-KYC via the “PDS Plus” mobile application. This initiative aims to make the e-KYC process quicker and more accessible.
Moreover, the government is also assisting with necessary updates to Aadhaar cards through the postal department, ensuring that beneficiaries can make required changes easily. Minister Bavaliya has urged beneficiaries to take advantage of these services to maximize their benefits.
He further shared details about the distribution of food grains for April, May, and June 2025. In April 2025, 93.42% of the various commodities were distributed. The central government has announced advance allocations for May and June 2025, with expected distribution rates of 84.81% and 93.40%, respectively.
The National Food Security Act of 2013 ensures that every eligible beneficiary receives adequate food supplies. The entire supply chain, including Fair Price Shop (FPS) operators, has been recognized for their commendable work in implementing this system.
In conclusion, the government’s relentless efforts to streamline the ration distribution process through e-KYC reflect its commitment to ensuring food security for all eligible citizens in Gujarat. By leveraging technology, the state aims to enhance efficiency and transparency in the public distribution system, ensuring that the most vulnerable populations receive the support they need.
