On Wednesday, a tragic incident occurred in Gujarat when a section of the Mujpur-Gambhira Bridge collapsed. This bridge connects Vadodara and Anand, and it is a crucial route for many vehicles. The collapse caused several vehicles to fall into the river below, resulting in a significant loss of life.
Initial reports confirm that at least 11 people have died due to this accident. Local police and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene to assist. The incident involved two trucks, two Eco vans, and a pickup truck that fell into the river. Five individuals were rescued but unfortunately, two fatalities were confirmed on-site.
In response to this tragic event, the Gujarat government has shown sensitivity towards the affected families. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state has announced financial assistance for the victims. Each family of the deceased will receive ₹4 lakh, while the injured will get ₹50,000. A total of ₹62 lakh in checks has been distributed to the affected families today.
The checks were handed over by local leaders, including MP Jashubhai Rathwa and MLA Chaitanyasinh Zhalana from Padra. They expressed their condolences to the victims’ families and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
This immediate financial aid reflects the government’s commitment to support those affected by this unfortunate incident. The chief minister has continuously communicated with various departments to ensure effective rescue and relief operations are carried out.
As part of the investigation into the collapse, the Chief Minister has also ordered a detailed inquiry into the bridge’s maintenance history. A team of experts will review past repairs, inspections, and quality checks conducted on the bridge. Following the initial investigation findings, several officials responsible for the bridge’s oversight have been suspended, including an executive engineer and two deputy engineers.
The bridge was reportedly repaired last year, raising questions about its structural integrity. In light of this incident, the Chief Minister has instructed that all other bridges in the state be thoroughly inspected to prevent such tragedies in the future.
The bridge’s collapse has disrupted traffic between Vadodara and Anand, affecting thousands of commuters who rely on this route. Local residents and leaders are calling for immediate action to enhance safety measures on all bridges in the region.
The government is committed to ensuring the safety of its citizens and will take necessary steps based on the investigation’s outcomes. As rescue operations continue, the focus remains on assisting the victims and their families during this difficult time.
