The Gujarat government has launched a new initiative to help ration card holders complete their e-KYC process from home. This service is provided free of charge by the postal department. The aim is to ensure that beneficiaries continue to receive subsidised food grains without interruption. The e-KYC process is mandatory for all ration card holders to verify their eligibility for assistance. They must complete this process by June 30, 2025.
The initiative is part of the government’s effort to make the distribution of food grains more transparent and efficient. The postal department, under a crucial agreement with the Food and Civil Supplies Department of Gujarat, is playing a vital role in this process. According to Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav, the postal service has already completed e-KYC for over 200,000 ration card holders at their homes.
This service is especially beneficial for NFSA (National Food Security Act) ration card holders. More than 8,800 post offices across rural and urban areas of Gujarat are offering this service. To speed up the e-KYC process, postal employees visit the homes of beneficiaries to provide assistance.
In addition to e-KYC, the postal department is also helping ration card holders update their mobile numbers linked to their Aadhaar cards. If a holder’s mobile number is not updated, the postal service will first update it under the Aadhaar service and then proceed with the e-KYC.
If beneficiaries miss the chance to be contacted by postal workers, they can reach out to their nearest post office for support. This initiative is a significant step towards Digital India and good governance, ensuring that elderly individuals, disabled persons, and women receive respectful and easy access to services.
