Gujarat Governor Encourages NSS Youth to Lead Change

The National Service Scheme (NSS) camp began today at Gujarat Vidyapith, where Governor Acharya Devvrat addressed around 40 lakh NSS volunteers from across the country. He urged the youth to become symbols of change rather than being part of the crowd. The camp, hosted by Gujarat Vidyapith in collaboration with various government bodies, aims to inspire young people to take individual resolutions for the betterment of society.

During his speech, Governor Devvrat highlighted the importance of national unity, especially in light of recent events such as the Pulwama attack. He noted that the bravery shown by the Indian Army during ‘Operation Sindhur’ is a testament to the strong resolve of the Prime Minister and the unbreakable unity of the country. He stated, “The dream of a developed India will be fulfilled through the national unity camp.”

Over 40 lakh students and youth, including 2 lakh from Gujarat, are connected with NSS as volunteers. The governor encouraged the youth to actively engage in various social causes, such as tree planting, water conservation, and animal welfare, which can empower families and communities.

He emphasized the importance of education and health in shaping their future. Devvrat criticized the fast-food culture among the youth, urging them to return to traditional healthy eating habits. He stated, “Our tradition is to consume fresh food that includes love from our mothers and sisters. It is not just food but a source of energy and values.” The governor also encouraged incorporating yoga and good conduct into their daily lives to remain physically and mentally strong.

Addressing environmental challenges, the governor expressed concern over the pollution of air, water, and soil due to excessive exploitation of nature. He warned that a rise in global temperatures could lead to significant declines in crop production, which would devastate agricultural cycles. He called on the youth to adopt organic farming practices to save the environment, livestock, and people’s health.

Devvrat referred to the Prime Minister’s ‘One Tree, One Name’ campaign, urging all volunteers to participate in this initiative, which he described as a divine path to service. He explained that true service comes from understanding the suffering of others and striving to alleviate it. He said, “When you feel the pain of others in your heart and try to wipe their tears, the wall between the devotee and God breaks down.”

The camp will run until June 12, featuring thematic workshops, discussions, and cultural programs showcasing the diversity of Indian culture and the spirit of unity among the youth. The event’s key messages revolve around the importance of community service and the need for selfless contributions to society.

Dr. Harshad Patel, the Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapith, stated that the NSS is fulfilling the vision of community service that Mahatma Gandhi envisioned. He emphasized the need for self-service alongside community service and encouraged participants to contribute towards the development of the nation, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision for a developed India by 2047.

As the camp progresses, it aims to instill a sense of responsibility and unity among the youth, empowering them to take proactive steps in their communities and contribute positively to society.
