The Cooperative Summit 2025 was held in Ahmedabad, led by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. This event gathered significant figures, including Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The summit marks the celebration of 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives by the United Nations.
In his opening speech, Amit Shah emphasized the importance of revitalising the cooperative movement in India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He introduced the motto ‘Prosperity through Cooperation’ and highlighted the need to strengthen primary cooperative societies in villages. He stated that a strong cooperative framework would bring significant benefits to rural areas and farmers.
Shah presented plans to register nearly two lakh new primary agricultural cooperative societies (PACS) across the country by 2029. He reassured attendees that policies would be developed to ensure the sustainability of these societies. These PACS will also educate members about natural farming practices.
The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, shared his pride in the achievements of the Indian armed forces, linking them to the cooperative movement. He praised the establishment of a separate Ministry of Cooperation and the efforts made to improve the lives of people in remote areas through cooperative initiatives.
Amit Shah stressed the need for transparency and accountability in cooperatives. He mentioned the importance of having cooperative banks manage the accounts of village societies to enhance financial stability. He also noted the establishment of a cooperative university in Gujarat, aimed at leading cooperative education in the state.
The summit saw the launch of a guidebook titled ‘Cooperative Resolution’, aimed at providing insights into cooperative practices. Shah’s vision for the cooperative sector includes comprehensive support for farmers, encouraging them to engage with cooperatives actively.
Over 4,500 cooperative leaders and representatives attended the summit, showcasing the commitment to cooperative development in Gujarat. The event was a significant step towards fostering a robust cooperative network in the state and beyond.
The cooperative sector aims to empower local communities and improve economic conditions through collective efforts. With Amit Shah’s leadership and a clear vision, the future of cooperatives in Gujarat looks promising.
