Gujarat Increases Honorarium for Visiting Doctors in Health Centres

In a significant move to enhance healthcare services, the Gujarat government has raised the honorarium for visiting specialist doctors working in district hospitals and community health centres. This decision comes under the CM Setu Scheme, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in a cabinet meeting. Previously, general physicians and pediatricians received ₹3,000 per day, while other specialists earned ₹2,000. Now, all visiting specialists will earn a minimum of ₹4,200 per day after providing at least three hours of mandatory service. Health Minister Rishikesh Patel confirmed the increase, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing excellent healthcare to all citizens. Under the revised structure, non-surgical super-specialists will now receive ₹8,500 per day, while surgical super-specialists will earn ₹2,700. This increase aims to attract more qualified doctors to serve in the state’s healthcare system, ensuring better medical services for the population. The health department is dedicated to improving the quality of healthcare across Gujarat, acknowledging the vital role that these doctors play in delivering essential medical services. This increase is expected to help retain skilled professionals and improve patient care in the state’s health facilities. The Gujarat government is also preparing for the G20 Health Ministers’ Summit, which will showcase the state’s healthcare facilities and encourage medical tourism and investments in the pharmaceutical sector. This summit, scheduled for August 17-19, 2023, will involve health ministers from around 40 countries, highlighting Gujarat’s commitment to global health initiatives and collaboration. The state’s vibrant healthcare sector is poised to benefit from this international exposure, potentially leading to new opportunities and advancements in medical services.
