Gujarat has taken a significant step towards cleanliness in public transport by installing Automatic Vehicle Washing Machines at 33 bus depots across the state. This initiative aligns with the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which aims to promote cleanliness and hygiene among citizens. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has encouraged various innovative efforts to maintain cleanliness in public spaces.
The Automatic Vehicle Washing Machines will ensure that buses are not only safe but also clean for passengers. These machines are capable of washing different types of buses, including sleeper, express, Volvo, and mini buses. The initiative was guided by the state’s Minister of Transport, Harsh Sanghvi, who emphasized the importance of cleanliness in public transportation.
Currently, these machines are operational in locations such as Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Anand, Rajkot, and Bhuj, among others. The aim is to enhance the cleanliness standards of public transport facilities and ensure that passengers have a pleasant travel experience. The cleaning staff are also dedicated to keeping bus stations and depots clean.
As part of this initiative, the government plans to install seven more machines soon in Khambhalia, Valsad, Himmatnagar, Godhra, Vadodara, Dahod, and Ugnana. Furthermore, there are plans to expand this project to an additional 40 depots in the future.
The Gujarat State Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has invested over ₹11.80 crore for the purchase and installation of 80 Automatic Vehicle Washing Machines, each costing around ₹14 lakh. These machines can clean a bus in just 5 to 7 minutes, ensuring that passengers can enjoy a clean and hygienic journey.
This initiative is part of a broader commitment by the GSRTC to prioritize passenger safety and cleanliness in public transportation. The efforts to maintain clean buses and stations are expected to enhance the overall travel experience for the people of Gujarat. With ongoing advancements in public transportation cleanliness, the state aims to set a benchmark for others to follow.
