Gandhinagar, Gujarat: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has launched five initiatives to promote the ancient language of Sanskrit in Gujarat. This launch took place during a meeting of the permanent committee of the Gujarat Sanskrit Board. The aim is to enhance the reach of Sanskrit language and literature to the people of the state.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Patel. He unveiled the board’s logo in the presence of Education Minister Dr. Kuberbhai Dindor and the chairman of the Sanskrit Board, Dr. Himanjay Paliwal. The Chief Minister stated that the government aims to promote Sanskrit while also preserving its rich heritage.
In 2020, the Gujarat government established the Sanskrit Board to further the initiatives of promoting and protecting this ancient language. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra “Heritage and Development” is guiding this initiative.
The five initiatives launched are:
1. **Sanskrit Week Festival**: This festival will celebrate Sanskrit in educational institutions across Gujarat from August 6 to August 13, 2025. Events will be organized to create an environment rich in Sanskrit. Sanskrit Day will be celebrated on August 9, 2025, aligning with the festival.
2. **Sanskrit Promotion Assistance Scheme**: Under this scheme, financial assistance will be provided to institutions that plan workshops, seminars, training, innovation, and research activities related to Sanskrit.
3. **Sanskrit Encouragement Scheme**: Schools with more than 100 students in Grade 10 will receive financial support if all students study Sanskrit as a subject.
4. **Shreemad Bhagavad Gita Scheme**: This initiative aims to make all citizens of Gujarat familiar with the global scripture, the Bhagavad Gita.
5. **Hundred Proverbs Memorization Scheme**: This programme will focus on moral development through memorization of 100 proverbs, aimed at building better citizens in society.
During the meeting, a presentation on the activities of the Gujarat Sanskrit Board was made. The Chief Minister provided guidance on the implementation of the state’s Sanskrit-related policies and programs. Senior officials from various departments attended the meeting, including Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi, Additional Chief Secretary of Education Sunayana Tomar, and Commissioner of Higher Education Dilip Rana.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for widespread promotion of Sanskrit language and literature, ensuring that it reaches every citizen. The initiatives reflect the state government’s commitment to reviving and maintaining the importance of Sanskrit in modern society. This is an essential step towards cultural enrichment and educational development in Gujarat. The government hopes these initiatives will engage the youth and awaken their interest in learning this ancient language.
