Gandhinagar: In a significant move towards women’s empowerment, the Gujarat government has launched a new initiative called the ‘Ring Fencing Digital Wallet Transfer’ system. This initiative aims to support 50,000 women from families holding the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) card in 13 key talukas and 2 districts. The scheme was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 8, 2025, coinciding with International Women’s Day.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat government has implemented this scheme through the Gujarat Livelihood Promotion Company, part of the rural development department. The digital wallet system is a first-of-its-kind effort in the state, designed to enhance the economic independence of women.
The Ring Fencing Digital Wallet Transfer system allows direct assistance to be deposited into the personal digital wallets of eligible women. This system ensures that the funds are secure and can only be used for specified livelihood activities, preventing misuse. The first phase of the initiative has already benefited 674 women, providing them with livelihood support through the digital wallet. This process is designed to be fully secure, transparent, and dedicated to its intended purpose.
By the end of the year, approximately 28,000 beneficiaries are expected to receive support through this innovative digital wallet system. The Gujarat government believes this initiative will significantly empower women from the most deprived families in the state, helping them achieve economic stability.
The G-SAFAL (Gujarat Scheme for Assistance to Antyodaya Families for Augmenting Livelihoods) programme aims to uplift the socio-economic status of women in Gujarat. This initiative not only highlights the increasing participation of women in various sectors but also focuses on providing them with financial independence.
With this initiative, the Gujarat government is making strides towards inclusive development, ensuring that women have the resources and support they need to thrive. The digital wallet system is a step forward in creating a more equitable society where women play a vital role in the economy.
As more women access these resources, the government hopes to see a positive impact on their families and communities. The Ring Fencing Digital Wallet Transfer system is set to change the landscape of women’s empowerment in Gujarat, providing them with the tools to enhance their livelihoods and contribute to their families’ well-being.
This initiative is part of a larger national effort to digitise services and improve access to financial resources for vulnerable populations. By combining technology with social initiatives, the Gujarat government aims to create a robust support system for women, fostering a culture of self-reliance and economic growth.
In conclusion, the launch of the ‘Ring Fencing Digital Wallet Transfer’ system marks a significant milestone in Gujarat’s journey towards women’s empowerment. This initiative not only provides immediate financial support but also promotes long-term economic independence for women, paving the way for a brighter future for families across the state.
