Today, the Speaker of the Gujarat Assembly, Shankarbhai Chaudhary, launched the ‘Seedball for Green Wall’ campaign in Ambaji. This initiative marks the fifth consecutive year of the campaign aimed at creating a green wall in the Aravalli hills of Banaskantha district. The launch took place with support from Banas Dairy, the Forest Department, and local volunteers at the Gabbar-Ambaji site. Throughout July, Banas Dairy plans to plant over 10 million seedballs in the Aravalli mountains.
During the launch, Speaker Chaudhary prayed for the wellbeing of the state and its people before the idol of Maa Amba. The event included a green ritual where seedballs were planted both by walking in the mountains and using drones.
Chaudhary highlighted that the planting of seedballs on the Ambaji and Jesor hills has yielded excellent results. He mentioned that this long-running campaign has led to an increase in greenery over the years. He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the historic decision to create a green wall in the Aravalli ranges.
This initiative is expected to bless the people of Gujarat in the coming years. The rainwater collected on these hills nourishes the Banas, Saraswati, and Sabarmati rivers. Thousands of women farmers from Banaskantha have created these seedballs, which contain seeds of various trees provided by Banas Dairy. The Speaker urged citizens to engage in more tree planting to protect nature.
It is important to note that on World Environment Day 2025, Prime Minister Modi made a historic announcement to create a green wall in the Aravalli hills of Gujarat. This decision by the Government of India is set to benefit the entire ecosystem of Gujarat by extending the green wall from Banaskantha to Dahod. For five years, Banas Dairy has been actively working to plant seedballs in Aravalli, with positive results.
During the event at Gabbar-Ambaji, a large number of citizens attended and participated in the planting of seedballs in the hilly areas behind Gabbar.
What are Seedballs?
Seedballs are small balls made from animal dung mixed with seeds that can grow in the local environment with minimal water. They are created by women farmers from various dairy producer groups. The seedballs are placed in necessary locations in the forest, and when the monsoon rains come, the moisture enters the seedball, allowing the seeds inside to germinate and start the growth of a tree.
