Gujarat Leads Tree Plantation Drive with 17.48 Crore Saplings

Gujarat is making waves in environmental efforts with a major tree plantation campaign called “Ek Ped Ek Naam”. This initiative started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi encourages citizens to plant a tree in the name of their mothers. Launched on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024, the aim is to plant 140 crore saplings across India. Gujarat has achieved a remarkable milestone, planting 17.48 crore saplings, making it second in the country for this campaign.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Gujarat has shown a significant response. The urban areas contributed 15.72 crore saplings, while the rural regions added 1.76 crore. Kutch district led the efforts with the highest number of saplings planted, totaling 2.95 crore. This campaign has united individuals, organizations, and local governments, creating a community movement.

The progress of this national initiative is monitored through the “Meri Life” portal, where photos and videos of the planted trees are uploaded. Gujarat has already submitted over 17 crore images of the saplings planted.

Along with the tree planting, the campaign promotes the Miyawaki method for creating dense forests, known as ‘Matrivan’ or ‘Van Kavach’. In 2024, 5,500 villages will see the establishment of these forests as part of the 75th Forest Festival. Additionally, plans are in place to create 12,000 trees in an oxygen park in Ahmedabad, which will feature a special area for 551 Sindoor trees.

As part of the initiative, Chief Minister Patel and other officials will also participate in planting trees in Gandhinagar, showcasing their commitment to increasing green cover. This program not only pays tribute to the Earth but also strengthens community ties and promotes environmental awareness.

This effort comes at a crucial time when the world faces significant environmental challenges. By involving citizens in the tree planting process, Gujarat aims to foster a sense of responsibility toward the environment and ensure a sustainable future. The campaign is expected to continue to gain momentum as more people join in the effort to protect and enhance the natural landscape of the state.

Gujarat under Bhupendra Patel’s leadership is paving the way for a greener future. The state is not only focused on tree planting but is also developing policies that aim to make Gujarat a hub for renewable energy and sustainable practices. The ongoing efforts reflect a growing recognition of the importance of environmental stewardship in governance.

As Gujarat celebrates its achievements in tree planting, the state looks forward to continuing this journey towards a greener, healthier environment. The commitment of the government and its citizens can serve as a model for other states in India and around the world, showcasing the impact of collective action in combating climate change and promoting sustainability.
