Gandhinagar will host a significant event on June 5, 2025, to celebrate World Environment Day. The ceremony will take place at Mahatma Mandir, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. This event aims to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices. The Chief Minister’s presence will be complemented by the participation of key officials, including Forest and Environment Minister Mulubhai Bera and State Minister Mukeshbhai Patel.
Ahead of the main event, a foundation stone will be laid for the ‘Matrivan – Van Kavach’ Miyawaki forest at the new Secretariat in Gandhinagar. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance greenery and combat pollution in the state. Furthermore, the Chief Minister will inaugurate exhibitions showcasing alternatives to plastic and recycling solutions.
During the ceremony, several important projects related to the environment and forestry will be launched. These projects include the unveiling of the advanced XGN portal, a site criteria tool on the PM Gati Shakti portal, and a dashboard for plastic waste management. The Chief Minister will also launch various new websites for environmental agencies.
Additionally, the event will feature the e-launch of bag vending machines in Ahmedabad and Olpad-Surat, and the inauguration of newly constructed buildings for the Gujarat Pollution Control Board’s regional offices.
A noteworthy aspect of the event will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the CETP and its member units to promote effective disposal of industrial waste. After the main celebration, the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) will conduct technical sessions on topics such as ‘Alternatives to Plastic, Recycling, and Circular Economy’ and ‘Forest and Climate Action’.
This gathering will bring together policy makers, industry experts, environmental specialists, and civil society to reinforce Gujarat’s commitment to a greener, cleaner, and plastic-free future. The event is expected to highlight the importance of collaboration in tackling environmental challenges and promoting sustainability.
