Gujarat to Recruit Over 10,000 Vidya Sahayaks to Address Teacher Shortage

In a significant move to tackle the ongoing teacher shortage in Gujarat’s secondary and higher secondary schools, the state government has announced the recruitment of over 10,000 Vidya Sahayaks (education assistants). This initiative aims to fill the existing vacancies and ensure quality education across the state.

Addressing the Teacher Shortage

The recruitment drive comes in the wake of 3,178 unfilled positions in secondary and higher secondary schools, even after the appointment of 2,230 senior teachers. To bridge this gap, the government has decided to appoint Vidya Sahayaks, thereby increasing the total recruitment to approximately 10,700 positions.

Recruitment Process and Timeline

The recruitment process for 7,609 Vidya Sahayak posts is already underway. With the addition of the 3,178 vacancies, the total number of positions to be filled stands at around 10,700. The process, including document verification, is expected to be completed by the end of April.

Application and Selection

The response to the recruitment drive has been overwhelming, with over 73,000 candidates applying for the Vidya Sahayak positions. The selection process involves document verification and other standard procedures to ensure the appointment of qualified candidates.

Government’s Commitment to Education

Education Minister Kuber Dindor emphasized the government’s commitment to providing quality education by addressing the teacher shortage promptly. The recruitment of Vidya Sahayaks is a strategic move to ensure that students across Gujarat have access to qualified educators.
