Gujarat University (GU) is excited to announce the start of admissions for its new dual degree programmes on July 20. This is a significant step as it is the first time GU will implement dual-degree courses under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. For the upcoming academic year, the university has chosen 22 courses that will be available to students from semesters one through five at GU and its affiliated colleges.
The dual degree option is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students across various fields such as arts, commerce, science, and BS programmes. However, it is important to note that PhD students will not be eligible for this programme. The scheme allows students to pursue different combinations, including two bachelor’s degrees, a degree along with a diploma, or a degree with a certificate course.
Vice-Chancellor Neerja Gupta explained how this system works. Students can enrol in two full-time academic programmes as long as their class schedules do not overlap. Alternatively, they may choose to take one full-time physical course along with another through open or distance learning. They can even opt for up to two online programmes. However, Gupta emphasised that any degree or diploma programmes in an online mode must come from institutions recognised by the UGC or other competent authorities of the Government of India.
This new initiative aims to provide students with more flexibility and opportunities to enhance their educational qualifications. By allowing combinations of different degrees, GU is paving the way for a more comprehensive and versatile education system.
Students interested in applying for these dual degree programmes should prepare their applications ahead of the July 20 start date. It is essential for potential candidates to check the specific courses available and ensure they meet any necessary prerequisites.
The university aims to support students in their academic journey and help them build a strong foundation for their future careers. This dual degree programme is part of a broader effort to modernise education in Gujarat and aligns with national educational reforms.
With the implementation of the NEP, GU is setting a benchmark for other educational institutions in the state. This initiative not only enhances the learning experience but also equips students with diverse skills needed in today’s competitive job market.
In conclusion, Gujarat University’s dual degree admissions are set to offer students a unique opportunity to expand their academic horizons. With a focus on flexibility and modern education, GU is committed to fostering a learning environment that meets the needs of its students. The upcoming admissions on July 20 are highly anticipated as students prepare to take advantage of this innovative educational offering.
