Gujarat Yoga Board Celebrates Six Successful Years of Promoting Wellness

Gujarat is celebrating the sixth anniversary of the Gujarat State Yoga Board (GSYB), driven by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for health and wellness. Established on June 21, 2019, the board has significantly advanced the practice of yoga across the state. GSYB has trained over 150,000 yoga instructors and has hosted more than 5,000 daily yoga sessions. These efforts have allowed over 500,000 citizens to regularly practice yoga, leading to improved health and well-being.

The board’s initiatives have been instrumental in promoting yoga as a vital part of daily life. One of its most notable achievements is the establishment of two Guinness World Records. The first record was set during the International Yoga Day in 2023, where 147,952 people participated in a yoga session in Surat. This event marked the largest number of participants practicing yoga together at one time.

The second record was achieved on January 1, 2024, when over 50,000 people performed Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) at 108 locations, including the famous Modhera Sun Temple. These historic events have garnered global attention and appreciation, highlighting the importance of yoga in modern life.

The Gujarat State Yoga Board aims to integrate yoga into the daily routines of citizens. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Minister of Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Harsanghvi, GSYB is fostering a culture of wellness and health. The board plans to open 51 yoga studios, named ‘Yoga Nilayam’, across the state to provide accessible spaces for practice.

Additionally, GSYB is focusing on training 50,000 instructors and reaching 10 lakh practitioners. This initiative is part of the broader ‘Healthy Gujarat, Fit Gujarat’ campaign, which aims to reduce lifestyle diseases and improve the overall quality of life for citizens. The board provides monthly stipends to 5,000 trainers, ensuring they have stable employment while promoting health through yoga.

Yoga is not just an exercise; it is a holistic approach to health that combines physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation. Numerous studies have shown the benefits of yoga, including stress reduction, improved sleep, and enhanced immunity. By incorporating yoga into daily life, individuals can achieve better physical and mental health.

The Gujarat State Yoga Board’s commitment to promoting yoga has made the state a hub for wellness and spiritual growth. Their efforts reflect the timeless wisdom of yoga, making it relevant in today’s fast-paced world. With ongoing support from the government and active participation from the community, GSYB is poised for even greater accomplishments in the years to come.
