The Dharoi Dam, located in North Gujarat, has been transformed into an adventure park by the state government. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the Dharoi Adventure Fest, the longest in the country and the first of its kind in the state. The event took place at the famous Dharoi Dam on the border of Mehsana and Sabarkantha. The Chief Minister officially opened the adventure zone and enjoyed a thrilling speed boat ride. Along with Tourism Minister Mulubhai Bera and other dignitaries, he explored various adventure activities, including paramotoring, and inaugurated the tent city set up for visitors.
This adventure fest is part of a larger initiative inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to develop the Dharoi Dam area into a world-class, sustainable tourism destination. The development will occur in three phases, focusing on spiritual, adventure, eco, and recreational activities. The goal is to boost tourism while providing local employment opportunities, aligning with the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Dharoi will be developed as an ‘iconic place’ like many other tourism sites in Gujarat.
The fest will last for about 45 days and will feature land-based, water-based, and air-based adventure activities. A tent city has been constructed to accommodate visitors, offering 21 different types of tents and over 100 beds in air-conditioned dormitories. This arrangement allows tourists to immerse themselves in nature while enjoying various thrilling experiences.
The Dharoi Adventure Fest will include more than ten activities such as power boating, parasailing, rock climbing, hiking, and mountain biking. Additionally, visitors can engage in star gazing, astronomy camps, and nature walks. The festival is designed to provide an exciting atmosphere amidst the natural beauty of the Dharoi Dam, which boasts pure water, granite hills, and beautiful islands.
The Dharoi Dam, which was built on the Sabarmati River, began construction in 1971 and was inaugurated in 1978. It has a total water storage capacity of 907.88 million cubic meters. The Gujarat government is committed to promoting the Dharoi Dam as a global adventure tourism destination, alongside other tourist attractions in the area, such as Polo Forest, Taranga, Vadnagar, and Ambaji. This adventure fest will not only attract tourists but also generate employment opportunities for the local community.
This initiative is part of the Gujarat government’s broader plan to develop tourism circuits by enhancing various pilgrimage sites and tourist attractions in North Gujarat. The festival aims to make Dharoi a popular destination for adventure enthusiasts across India, providing a unique experience while showcasing the natural beauty of the region. With the support of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India, the government is looking to position Dharoi Dam as a key center for adventure tourism in North Gujarat.
