In Gandhinagar, Gujarat, a special review meeting was held by Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi to discuss the law and order situation in the state. The meeting included key figures such as Police Chief Vikas Sahay and Principal Secretary of the Home Department, Nipun Torwane, along with various police commissioners and senior police officers.
During the meeting, Minister Sanghvi praised the Gujarat Police for their efforts in tackling drugs. He noted that the number of cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act had more than doubled compared to previous figures. He congratulated the police for their quick action against drug mafia, with a record of 17 cases registered in just 15 days. Sanghvi encouraged local police to continue their efforts against drug-related crimes.
Additionally, the minister commended actions taken against illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. Under the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime (GujCTOC) Act, the police have made significant progress with eight cases filed and 77 accused persons charged within five months.
The review also focused on operations against anti-social elements. Sanghvi emphasized the need for a robust strategy to tackle these elements, citing historical actions against them. From January 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025, 582 illegal encroachments were removed, 1861 cases of illegal electricity connections were addressed, and strict actions were taken against 390 individuals involved in illegal financial transactions.
Furthermore, the government is taking a strong stance against loan sharks. Between January 1, 2024, and May 31, 2025, 2487 loan sharks faced 1054 cases. The police have also organized 641 loan melas to assist citizens. Sanghvi stressed the importance of timely registration of complaints at local police stations and urged senior officers to listen to the grievances of the citizens with empathy.
In terms of crime prevention, there have been 66 cases registered against 296 individuals involved in honey trap scams, with a call for severe action against such crimes.
Overall, the review meeting showcased the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order in Gujarat. Minister Sanghvi encouraged all police forces to remain vigilant and proactive in their duties to ensure the safety and security of the citizens.
