The Gujarat government has announced that the ‘School Admission Festival’ will take place from June 26 to 28, 2025. This initiative aims to encourage students to enroll in schools across the state. The festival will be held in all government primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools, as well as in residential schools. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will attend the events in various districts. On June 26, he will be in Mahisagar, on June 27 in Gandhinagar, and on June 28 in Kutch. The government aims to reduce the dropout rates in schools through this festival. Data shows that dropout rates have significantly decreased in recent years. For instance, the dropout rate for students in grades 1 to 5 was reduced to 1.07% this academic year, down from 20.50% in 2001-02. Similarly, for grades 1 to 8, the rate dropped to 2.42%. This shows that the festival has been successful in keeping children in school.
During the festival, efforts will also be made to enroll children who missed admission in previous years. Officials will conduct school visits and engage with families to ensure every child has the opportunity for education. The government will also distribute educational kits containing 30 useful items to new students. These kits are designed to support children’s physical and mental health.
The initiative is part of a broader educational mission called ‘Nipun Bharat, Nipun Gujarat’, which aims to enhance foundational literacy and numeracy among children. This mission aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, focusing on experiential learning and activity-based education. The state plans to ensure every child is enrolled and tracked, utilizing health department data to assist with this.
Moreover, the use of artificial intelligence will help identify students at risk of dropping out. Families of these children will be invited to the festival to highlight the importance of completing their education. The goal is to create a supportive environment where every child can thrive academically. The government hopes that this festival will not only increase enrollment but also foster a culture of learning and growth for all students in Gujarat.
