In the small village of Gunder, located in the Sankheda taluka of Chhota Udaipur district, students at the local primary school have been facing a serious problem. For the last six months, the school has not had a permanent teacher. This situation has left around 30 students without proper education, as teachers change daily. The lack of consistency in teaching has severely impacted the students’ learning experience.
Gunder Primary School, which teaches grades 1 to 5, has been relying on a rotating group of teachers from other schools. Each day, a new teacher arrives to take over the class. This constant change has confused the students and hindered their educational progress. Parents and local leaders have expressed their concerns, stating that the children are not able to grasp the lessons properly without a permanent teacher.
Local residents are very aware of the importance of education for their children. They have been vocal about their need for a stable teaching staff at the school. In fact, they even boycotted the recent school admission ceremony to make their point clear. If the education department does not take action soon, they are considering an extreme step: shutting down the school until a permanent teacher is appointed.
Vipin Bhai Baria, a local leader, emphasized the urgency of the situation. He said, “Since there have been no permanent teachers for six months, the changing teachers every day are not helping our children. They are losing valuable learning time.” He warned that if no permanent teachers are hired, parents will withdraw their children from Gunder Primary School and enroll them in other schools.
Rashmika Ben Baria, another local resident, shared her frustration. She appealed to the authorities, saying, “We have around 30 to 35 students here, and we cannot let them fall behind. If the education department does not appoint a permanent teacher soon, we will take our children to another school. This is our last resort.”
The community has made several requests to the education officials in the past six months, but they have not seen any significant changes. The residents of Gunder are determined to fight for their children’s education. They believe that every child deserves a consistent and quality education.
The situation at Gunder Primary School highlights a broader issue in rural education in Gujarat. Many schools in remote areas struggle with a lack of resources, including qualified teachers. This ongoing crisis poses a serious threat to the future of many children in these communities.
The community’s resolve shows the power of collective action. They are willing to take a stand for their children’s future. It remains to be seen how the education department will respond to their demands. Will they take the necessary steps to appoint a permanent teacher? Only time will tell, but the residents of Gunder are prepared to fight for their children’s right to education.
