Harsh Mukesh Sanghani: First Indian Elected to Global Cooperative Role

In a historic achievement for India, Harsh Mukesh Sanghani has been elected as the Chairman of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) Youth Committee. This event marks a significant milestone not only for Sanghani but also for the entire Indian cooperative sector. Founded in 1895 in London, the ICA is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. It comprises over 306 organizations from 105 countries, representing more than one billion members. The ICA aims to be the main symbol of cooperation at a global level and to connect cooperative organizations worldwide. The alliance fosters collaboration through its various initiatives, ensuring that skills, knowledge, and cooperative activities are shared among its members.

As the Chairman of the ICA Youth Committee, Sanghani’s responsibilities include promoting and developing cooperative organizations, safeguarding the fundamental principles of cooperation, and enhancing cooperation across the globe. The committee also focuses on guidance, training, and the promotion of democratic control and economic participation within cooperatives.

Sanghani’s election is a testament to his remarkable leadership abilities and international experience. During his election announcement, several cooperative leaders, including Dr. Chandrapal Singh Yadav, Chairman of ICA Asia Pacific, and Geetaben Sanghani, President of the Gujarat Women Credit Society, offered their blessings and congratulations to Sanghani, wishing him success in his future endeavors.

Sanghani hails from Amreli, where he has shown his talent and commitment to political roles, previously participating in the Youth Assembly of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. His selection as the Youth Committee Chairman is seen as a proud moment for the Indian cooperative community.

The ICA Youth Committee operates across four zones, including Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Europe. It has eight constituent organizations that span various sectors, such as agriculture, banking, health, fisheries, housing, insurance, industry, and services.
