The Gambhira Bridge accident, which occurred on July 9, has claimed at least 15 lives so far. Reports indicate that several vehicles plunged into the river when the bridge collapsed. Rescue operations are ongoing, with teams searching for additional victims. The local authorities have set up a committee to investigate the cause of the bridge collapse and to assess any negligence.

In response to the tragedy, the Gujarat government has announced financial assistance for the victims’ families. Each family of the deceased will receive ₹4 lakh, while those injured will be supported with ₹50,000. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed his condolences and announced additional aid from the central government.

The Gambhira Bridge, built in 1985, is crucial for connecting Vadodara and Anand districts. It has been in a state of disrepair for years, with regular maintenance required. Despite the repairs, the bridge’s condition had not improved significantly, leading to concerns about its safety. This incident has sparked criticism of the state government’s oversight and handling of infrastructure maintenance.

Calls for improved safety measures have intensified following the accident. Many citizens are calling for an immediate inspection of other bridges in the state that may be in similar disrepair to prevent further tragedies. The opposition parties have raised questions about the government’s infrastructure management and have demanded accountability.

As investigations continue, the focus remains on ensuring the health and recovery of the injured while addressing the systemic issues that led to this disaster. The government has promised to take all necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future and to provide support to the affected families.
