The weather department has issued a warning for heavy rain across several areas in Gujarat starting today. The alert is in effect for the next three days, with thunderstorms expected. Winds may reach speeds of 50 to 60 km/h, and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to high waves. An upper air cyclonic circulation over the central region is contributing to this weather pattern. Rainfall is expected particularly in South Gujarat, while parts of Kutch may remain dry.
According to the weather forecast, the intensity of rain is likely to decrease after May 29. Currently, the weather department predicts light to moderate rainfall in central Gujarat, eastern Gujarat, and various districts in Saurashtra. The official onset of the monsoon season in Gujarat is on June 15, but the exact timeline for this year has not yet been confirmed.
In the Gir region, continuous rain has led to the suspension of cable car services on the Girnar mountain for safety reasons. The services will resume once the weather clears. Meanwhile, in South Gujarat, heavy rain has caused a gulmohar tree to fall near a school in Umargam, but fortunately, a passing moped rider escaped unharmed.
In Ahmedabad, the weather also showed changes, with scattered rain accompanied by strong winds. Many trees were reported to have fallen due to the high winds. Fire department calls were received regarding fallen trees in various areas, including Rajpur, Gomtipur, and Satellite Road. Trees also fell in Saraspur and near the Satadhar crossroad, while one fell on a house in Viratnagar.
The weather update indicates that rainfall was recorded in 55 talukas across the state in the last 24 hours. Some areas received between half an inch to two and a half inches of rain. The highest recorded rainfall was in Rajkot with 2.60 inches, followed by 1.89 inches in Amreli and 1.38 inches in Surat. Heavy rain has caused disruptions and safety concerns in many regions.
As the weather department has forecasted continued rainfall over the next week, it is essential for residents and local authorities to stay alert and prepared. The rain, while providing relief from the heat in urban areas, may also lead to flooding and other related issues. Therefore, residents are advised to take necessary precautions during this period.
