The weather department has issued a warning for heavy rainfall across various districts in Gujarat for the next three days. The alert includes intense rainfall expected in Saurashtra and many surrounding districts. Specifically, districts like Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Porbandar are under an orange alert, indicating severe weather conditions. Meanwhile, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and other areas are under a yellow alert for heavy rains.

In addition to the intense downpours, light to moderate rains are forecasted for Kutch, Banaskantha, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Gir Somnath, Bhavnagar, Surat, Tapi, Dangs, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Narmada, Chhota Udepur, Dahod, Bharuch, Vadodara, Panchmahal, Anand, Kheda, Mahisagar, Aravalli, Sabarkantha, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surendranagar, Botad, Morbi, Patan, and Mehsana districts.

The southwest monsoon has been robust this year, largely due to a weather system forming in the Bay of Bengal. Since the onset of the monsoon, Gujarat has experienced heavy rainfall, with forecasts predicting continued downpours over the next four days. In the first ten days of the season alone, the state has received 25% of its expected rainfall for the entire season.

The continuous rains have led to overflowing in 11 dams, with another 20 dams reaching 80% to 99% capacity, prompting alerts. Over 11 dams are currently under close observation, as they contain more than 70% of their storage capacity.

In the last 24 hours, Devbhumi Dwarka received more than 2.40 inches of rain, causing 20-foot waves and strong currents in the sea. Meanwhile, significant rainfall was also reported in Porbandar with 1.85 inches, Bharuch at 1.77 inches, and Vadodara’s Karjan area receiving 1.57 inches. Other areas like Valsad, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Bhavnagar also reported considerable rainfall.

The continuous downpours have caused the Madhuwanti River in Porbandar to swell, as new water flows in from upstream. The river’s water has reached the Shiva Lingam, flowing into the sea. The heavy rains upstream have resulted in a substantial water inflow into the river, bringing joy to farmers and local residents.

Overall, the citizens of Gujarat are preparing for more heavy rains, which could impact daily life, agriculture, and infrastructure. Authorities are urging residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the weather conditions develop.

Keep an eye on the local weather updates and stay safe during this rainy season.
