In Gujarat, heavy rainfall has caused significant flooding in the Sabar Kantha district, particularly in the town of Vadali. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall across various parts of the state for the next six days, until June 28. On June 23, districts including Amreli, Bhavnagar, Navasari, and Valsad experienced intense rainfall. The IMD has also issued yellow alerts for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms in several regions, including Banaskantha, Tapi, Surat, Mehsana, and Ahmedabad.
Vadali, a town in Sabar Kantha, reported a staggering 12.2 inches of rain within just 24 hours. This heavy downpour has led to severe waterlogging in many areas. The rainfall data from the IMD indicates that northern Gujarat has been significantly affected, with Vadali and nearby areas receiving the most rain.
The Sabar Kantha district also saw heavy rainfall in the Khedbrahma region, recording 10.3 inches. Other areas, such as Idar, received about 4.9 inches of rain, while several other locations in the district recorded around 1 inch.
The IMD has reported that over the past few days, the state has seen around 20% more rain than usual in Saurashtra and about 16% more in central eastern Gujarat. This indicates a strong monsoon season in the region. The highest rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours was in northern Gujarat, with Sabar Kantha leading the way.
In addition to Vadali, Banaskantha received 10.3 inches, and Aravalli saw 4.6 inches. In southern Gujarat, Surat recorded around 3.3 inches, while the state capital, Gandhinagar, saw about 1.3 inches of rainfall. Even Ahmedabad recorded approximately 1 inch of rain, and Vadodara received about 1.1 inches.
The heavy rainfall has caused disruptions and raised concerns among local residents. Officials are on alert to manage the situation and provide assistance where needed. With the monsoon season just beginning, local authorities are preparing for more intense weather conditions in the coming days.
The Sabar Kantha district, located in the western part of India, has a rich history and is home to several ancient sites. The area has a unique climate, with significant temperature variations between seasons. It is essential for residents and local authorities to remain vigilant during this rainy season to ensure safety and mitigate flooding risks.
As the monsoon continues, it is crucial for everyone to stay updated on weather forecasts and heed warnings from the meteorological department. Community preparedness and awareness will play a vital role in minimizing the impact of flooding and ensuring the safety of all residents in Sabar Kantha and surrounding areas.
