Surat, Bharuch, and Navsari in South Gujarat are facing severe flooding due to heavy rainfall. The weather department had predicted heavy rains, and today those predictions came true. The downpour has disrupted life in many areas. In Surat, rainfall started in the morning, and within just two hours, the city received about six inches of rain. This led to significant flooding, causing water to enter homes and shops. People were left in fear as the water levels rose, and many were stranded.
Children going to school faced particular difficulties. Authorities arranged for tractors to help transport students safely home. Despite the recent installation of drainage pipelines in Surat, the flooding overwhelmed the systems, leading to widespread frustration among residents.
The rain continued throughout the day, and the situation worsened for many families. Many were left without electricity as they sat in their homes surrounded by water. The rainfall has also affected the roads with reports of overflowing rivers, blocking transportation routes.
The flooding is not limited to Surat. Bharuch and Navsari have also seen significant rainfall, leading to similar conditions. In Bharuch, the overflow from local rivers has made roads impassable, and the city has come to a standstill. Residents are struggling to cope with the situation, and reports have emerged of flooding in rural areas as well.
The heavy rains have further impacted traffic on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai National Highway, causing delays and disruptions. The State Transport (ST) department has cancelled around 200 bus trips in response to the flooding. Long lines of vehicles have formed on state highways as drivers try to navigate the flooded roads.
The weather department has warned that the heavy rains may continue for the next 24 hours. This has left many farmers in the region worried about their crops, especially as some were nearing harvest. Farmers growing mangoes and chickoo are particularly anxious, as the rains can damage their produce and affect market prices.
In Navsari, local officials are urging residents to avoid flooded roads and use alternative routes. Many roads have been closed due to the rising water levels. The situation is dire, and efforts are being made to monitor and manage the flooding.
The heavy rainfall has provided some relief from the recent heat but has caused significant problems for residents and farmers alike. Citizens are advised to stay safe and heed warnings from local authorities as conditions continue to develop.
