The weather department has predicted heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in several districts of Gujarat over the next six days. This prediction comes as the southwest monsoon approaches the state. The areas expected to be affected include Saurashtra and southern Gujarat. Winds of 50-70 km/h are also forecasted, leading to a yellow alert being issued.
The Chief Minister has instructed local administrations in affected districts to remain vigilant. The weather department has warned of thunderstorms and heavy rain in at least 12 districts by May 28. Some of these districts include Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Surat.
The weather system has been influenced by an upper-air cyclonic circulation and a western disturbance. This has resulted in unseasonal rains across the country. Rainfall is likely to be significant from May 23 to May 25, with alerts issued for Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, and other districts.
By May 26, 15 districts will experience rain, with similar alerts in place. The affected areas include Anand, Bharuch, and Tapi. The rain is expected to provide relief from the recent heatwave that has gripped the region.
On May 27, heavy rain is expected in Dwarka, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, and other districts. The weather department has also indicated the possibility of rainfall in the same areas on May 28.
Recent reports from the last 24 hours indicate that heavy rainfall has already impacted regions like Junagadh, Amreli, and Surat, leading to the issuance of yellow alerts in these areas. The rainfall has raised concerns among farmers, especially regarding crop damage due to thunder and high winds.
The arrival of rain has brought relief from the extreme heat, with a noticeable drop in temperature. However, the unpredictable weather has caused anxiety among local farmers, who depend on stable weather conditions for their crops.
In Rajkot, heavy rains have been reported in Gondal and surrounding areas. This unexpected precipitation has caused worries about potential damage to crops, particularly the upcoming agricultural yield. The weather is expected to continue changing, with more rainfall likely in the coming days.
The weather department advises residents to stay updated on the forecasts and take necessary precautions. As the monsoon season approaches, the government is preparing to manage the impacts of the heavy rainfall effectively, ensuring the safety of citizens and farmers alike.
